The United States becomes the 170th Member State of the BIE

TheUnited States of Americahas rejoined the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), becoming the 170th Member State of the organisation.

In accordance with the BIE membership rules, the Government of the United States submitted the instruments for accession to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 10 May 2017. France, as the depository for the 1928 Paris Convention on International Exhibitions, notified the Secretariat of the BIE that the United States has adhered to the 1928 Paris Convention and is therefore once again a Member State.

The United States first joined the BIE on 24 May 1968. It left the organisation on 27 April 2001. The United States has organised six Expos under the auspices of the BIE: two World Expos (Expo 1939-40 New YorkandExpo 1962 Seattle) and four Specialised Expos (Expo 1968 San Antonio,Expo 1974 Spokane,Expo 1982 KnoxvilleandExpo 1984 New Orleans).

The United States is an active participant in World and Specialised Expos, and will have a pavilion at thenext Specialised Expo, taking place in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, between 10 June and 10 September 2017.
