Inspired by the sacrificial vessels in ancient China, the main architecture of the China Pavilion is designed in the form of traditional Dougong or brackets featuring layer upon layer between the top of a column and a crossbeam, standing out as a majestically impressive building. He Jingtang, leading designer of the China Pavilion, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the School of Architecture of South China University of Technology, remarks that the China Pavilion highlights the unique Chinese characteristics and the spirit of the era, implying "ample barn and rich people".
