First-class creativity meets cutting-edge technology in the newest country pavilion to be unveiled
Artificial
intelligence and space are brought together in a futuristic experience as part
of the UK Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai.
British artist Es Devlin OBE, who drew inspiration from one of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking’s final projects before he passed away in March, has designed the newly unveiled pavilion. His ‘Breakthrough Message’ competition asked people worldwide to consider how we could express ourselves as a planet, should we ever encounter intelligent extraterrestrial life.
The UK’s centrepiece at Expo 2020 intends to provide a platform for people to learn, have fun and collaborate with others as they explore new frontiers, echoing Expo’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
Located in Expo 2020’s Thematic District dedicated to the subtheme of Opportunity, the structure’s dramatic design features illuminated words and phrases to catch the eyes of passersby. Visitors can contribute their own sentiments to the sculpture, creating a continually changing poem, pieced together on dozens of screens.
The UK Pavilion will be positioned as a hub of creative collaboration, transcending national identities by bringing together people from all walks of life to share a common message. It will also showcase the UK’s status as a creative pioneer at the forefront of technology, ensuring an interactive and informative visitor experience that lasts long in the memory.
The UK is the latest country to reveal the design and theme of its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and more are expected in the coming months.
