Expo 2020 Dubai’s interactive Opportunity Pavilion will empower millions of visitors from around the world to play their own role in human development

It can sometimes feel as though global challenges are so remote or abstract that we, as individuals, can make little difference. But at Expo 2020 Dubai, we know that small actions can have a big impact.

Our newly unveiled Opportunity Pavilion will give every visitor the chance to make meaningful contributions to global development goals, underpinning our commitment to empower visitors to become individual forces for global change.

It has been designed to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate global progress towards achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

These goals, which set out 17 objectives that, if achieved, will ensure a good basic quality of life for everyone, are ever more important as the global population edges towards 8 billion by 2030.

Developed by a world-class team of architects, designers and curators, the 4,500 sqm, concrete-free structure will be built from organic, recyclable materials.

About 111 kilometres of woven rope will be used to make the pavilion’s striking, spiral-shaped canopy, symbolising the importance of people connecting to achieve common goals.

The Opportunity Pavilion will take visitors on an engaging and interactive journey, during which they will be encouraged to participate in decision-making and gaming activities.

It will also house ‘Small Steps, Big Leaps’, Expo 2020’s Global Best Practice Programme. Introduced by the World Expo governing body, Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the initiative calls for every World Expo to showcase successful and impactful solutions to the world’s biggest challenges.

Millions of visitors will have the chance to make meaningful contributions to global development goals by highlighting how their individual actions can help solve global problems.

After all, by making small but meaningful improvements to our own lives, we can make a real difference to communities in every corner of the planet.
