Member States of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) have approved the nomination of Dimitri Kerkentzes as Secretary General of the Organisation. Mr. Kerkentzes will succeed Vicente G. Loscertales, who served as Secretary General for 27 years, on 1 January 2020.

Dimitri Kerkentzes joined the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in 2003 and served as the Secretary General’s Counsellor and Chief of Staff since 2009, before being appointed Deputy Secretary General in 2015, and serving as Acting Secretary General between December 2016 and January 2018. He was the BIE representative to Specialised Expo 2008 Zaragoza, World Expo 2010 Shanghai, Specialised Expo 2012 Yeosu, World Expo 2015 Milan, and Specialised Expo 2017 Astana. During his tenure as Deputy Secretary General, he has notably overseen the establishment of the World Expo Museum, the launch of comprehensive impact studies on World and Specialised Expos, and the restructuring and expansion of the BIE Secretariat.
Dimitri Kerkentzes previously worked in the energy industry in London, before moving to the United Nations in New York in 2001. He graduated from the University of Kent with a master’s degree in International Relations and Human Rights.
A Greek national born in London, Dimitri Kerkentzes speaks English, French and Greek.
