BIE Member States elect President of General Assembly and four Vice-Presidents

  Elections were held today during the 166th session of the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), held in Paris. Member States elected the President of the General Assembly as well as four Vice-Presidents, who simultaneously chair the four BIE Committees.

  Jai-chul Choi (Republic of Korea) was elected President of the General Assembly of the BIE.Ambassador Choi held the post of President of the BIE’s Executive Committee for three terms, between 2013 and 2019, which included leading the Enquiry Missions during the candidature phase of Specialised Expo 2023 and World Expo 2025. He has served as the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Morocco and to Denmark. Ambassador Choi succeeds Steen Christensen (Denmark), who served as President of the General Assembly from 2015 to 2019.

  Alain Berger (France) was elected President of the Executive Committee. Finland, Hungary, Monaco and Switzerland were re-elected to the Committee, and Japan, Spain, New Zealand, Italy, Russia, Senegal and Indonesia were elected as new Members.

  Moin-Ud-Din Ahmad Wani (Pakistan) was elected President of the Rules Committee. Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh and Greece were re-elected to the Committee, and the United States, Republic of Korea, Turkey, Mauritania, Angola, Malta and Belgium were elected as new Members.

  Patrick Specht (Germany) was elected President of the Administration and Budget Committee. Algeria and Romania were re-elected to the Committee, and Lithuania, Mexico, China, Austria, Syria and Togo were elected as new Members.

  Murager Sauranbayev (Kazakhstan) was elected President of the Information and Communication Committee. The Czech Republic, Haiti and Palau were re-elected to the Committee, and Cyprus, Mali, Cameroon, Uzbekistan and Tunisia were elected as new Members.
