Dedicated to planning a successful national participation in Expos, the programme – the first in a series aimed at supporting El Salvador’s nation branding efforts at Expos - was delivered remotely on 12 July. The session was organised in partnership with the Embassy of El Salvador and PROESA – the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador.

Participants from El Salvador’s embassy in Paris, PROESA, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took part in the programme, which featured four dedicated sessions delivered by BIE officials. The sessions were centred around the process of participating in an Expo including the communications, technical, logistics and operational aspects of organising an Expo pavilion.

The capacity building programme is a BIE initiative aimed at supporting its 169 Member States and notably providing countries with additional knowledge and specific technical know-how regarding participation in Expos and the organisation of Expos. The aim of this programme is to support the engagement of Member States in Expos and in the workings of the BIE, therefore fostering the best possible conditions for Expos to serve as attractive and effective platforms for multilateral cooperation, public diplomacy and the education of the public.

Mr. Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the BIE stated:“With this successful programme session, El Salvador has further demonstrated its spirited engagement in Expos and its determination to share its modern and forward-looking outlook with the world. I look forward to continuing to work with El Salvador, and to seeing how its vision is conveyed through its pavilions at Expo 2020 Dubai and beyond.”

H.E. Mrs Lorena Sol de Pool, Ambassador of El Salvador to France indicated:“President Bukele is implementing a financial reengineering and a historic social investment to allow El Salvador to attract foreign investment with greater speed and efficiency.”

El Salvador has been participating regularly in Expos since World Expo 1867 in Paris, and has been recognised for the quality of its participation.
