The aesthetics of Japanese poster design is renownedfor its diverse visual presentationand unique printing techniques. A number of famous poster design masters and classic works have also emerged atthe Expos once held in Japan.
The exhibitionthemed"Diversity and Sustainable Development of Life", showcases works by renowned design veterans and masters, such as Shigeo Fukuda, Kazumasa Nagai,Shin Matsunaga,Masuteru Aoba, MitsuoKatsui, Koichi Sato, Katsumi Asaba, TakashiAkiyama, and Ken Miki.The exhibition features nearly 80 poster design worksspanning over 40 years and comprising of more than 30 series.This exhibition offers a reflectionand interpretation of nature, life and the future, but also presentsthe different forms of artistic interpretation and the design performance of different perspectives. The posters cover a wide range of content and are commonly used for purposes such as public service announcements, commercial promotions, and cultural education.The presentation styles of the posters are also diverse and captivating.Some utilize abstract graphics, some integrate artistic illustrations, some employ textual combinations, and others leverage photography techniques. Through their unique artistic design languages, they narrate themes of common concern to all.
The World Expo Museum (WEM), as the official museum of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), will be participating in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. To mark the one-year countdown to the opening of Expo 2025 Osaka, we proudly present "The Journey of Graphics: Classic Japanese Poster Exhibition".
The works of this exhibition were collected by Professor Wu Yihua, the China liaison of the Japan Graphic Designers Association and a seasoned curator, and supported by Mr.DongChunxin, Vice Dean of the Design Department of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and Vice President of Shanghai Industrial Art Design Association.
