Speaking of new trends in the automobile market, many people’s first reaction is electric vehicles.
There are more and more electric vehicles in the streets. New energy vehicles start to be popular. However, in addition to electric vehicles, there is also a more environmentally friendly gas vehicle that is constantly being improved. The future may not necessarily be the world of electric vehicles!
Since 2013, 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions have signed a letter of responsibility for the treatment of automobile pollution with the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Most of them mentioned the need to vigorously promote natural gas vehicles (CNG/LPG vehicles) and related incentive policies and supporting measures.
And when it comes to engines that use gas as fuel, you have to mention a certain salesman.
Salesman invented?
Salesman invented?
You must be unbelievable!
But in the 1860s, A salesman sparked a spark because he was interested in colliding with the engine!
Nicholas August Otto was originally a salesman.
Nicholas August Otto
German inventor
The first four-stroke internal combustion engine was manufactured in 1876, and that is the prototype of the four-stroke internal combustion engine that has been produced in the hundreds of millions.
Germany issued stamps on Otto and Otto cycle twice in 1952 and 1964 to commemorate this great inventor.
Otto accidentally saw a report on the Le Nouvach engine in the newspaper, and became very interested in it. He also became an engine fan, so he took pains to reform the Le Nouvach engine.
In order to have better economic conditions to support engine development, in September 1864, Otto and entrepreneur Jug Langen co-founded the Otto&Cie (NAOtto&Cie) in Cologne, the world's first engine production factory. Langen is mainly responsible for financial support, and Otto is responsible for engine manufacturing technology.
Entrepreneur Jug Langen
In the same year, a successful atmospheric engine was successfully created. It is said that it is to make a gas explosion to create a vacuum and use this vacuum to pull the piston back and forth. Although this principle is weird, its fuel consumption is half lower than that of similar machines at the time.
As a result, the two-stroke engine of Otto and Langen won a gold medal at the Paris World Expo in 1867.
Expo 1867 Paris
Theme-the history of labor
In the layout of this Expo, France implemented a classification system designed by engineer F. Le Play for exhibits.
This far-reaching classification system covers all human industries and products, reflects human life habits, and the relationship between people, people and society, and even between people and advanced civilization.
Following the perspective of the classification of the exhibits of this Expo, We have fully experienced the expo for the first time, a feast that showcases human civilization and development.
Gas engine
At the Expo 1867 Paris, most of the focus was on gas engines, among which the new Otto-Langen atmospheric engine was praised for its innovative efficiency.
The new product is an improvement on the Lenoir engine developed in 1860 and is the result of a collaboration between Nikolaus Otto and Eugen Langen.
Otto-Langen atmospheric engine
As named by its inventor, it consists of a Greek ion column that forms a single cylinder connected to a piston. It is connected to a rack and extends vertically above the engine.
It is the world's first four-stroke engine, which is very important to industry, and it consumes half of the gasoline of other engines with the same power. Beyond the Lenoir engine that was also exhibited at the Expo 1867, the Otto-Langen atmospheric engine won the Grand Prix and led to its mass production, and the company manufactured thousands of models in the following years.

The success of the atmospheric engine-the predecessor of the modern internal combustion engine-will revolutionize industry and transportation in the coming decades.
Gas engine
Ignition gas engine
Always modified from diesel engines, the cylinder block, crankshaft, main bearings, cam lifters and connecting rods are the same as those of diesel engines.
In order to prevent cylinder knocking, gas engines usually work at lower pressures. The output power of ignited gas engines is only 60%-~80% of diesel engines. Engine manufacturers can only increase the cylinder diameter by 5%~10% to make up for the power loss.
The manufacturing cost per unit power of an ignition gas engine is higher than that of a diesel engine. As the operating pressure of the gas engine cylinder is low, the bearing load is small, the gas is completely burned, the combustion chamber is clean, and the life of the engine and its accessories is increased, which compensates for the increase in engine cost.
At present, the power of a large-bore, high-lean-burn gas engine is similar to that of a diesel engine of the same size.
Dual fuel compression ignition gas engine
Natural gas is used as the main dye, and a small amount of diesel is used as the igniting agent.
Diesel compresses and ignites the gas mixture in the combustion chamber, and the proportion of ignited diesel is 1% to 15% of the total fuel.
Due to the small amount of diesel, the emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter are greatly reduced. Dual fuel compression ignition gas engines can usually switch between dual fuel and full diesel fuel.
China has issued Q/SYRH 2023-2001 gas engine oil industry standard
According to the ash content, the products under this standard can be divided into three types: low ash, medium ash, and high ash. The viscosity classification is: 10W-30, 15W-40, 30, and 40 four grades.
Low-ash and medium-ash type are suitable for gas-fired or dual-fuel city buses.
The high ash type is suitable for the lubrication of heavy-duty gas or dual-fuel engines.
As many developed countries in the world are currently developing gas vehicles, there is no uniform standard for the engines used. Therefore, there is no unified gas engine lubricating oil standard and engine bench test evaluation method. Engine manufacturers generally put forward requirements for special engine oil based on a certain period of driving test.
Compared with other fuels, natural gas has less carbon and more hydrogen. The main product produced after combustion is water, with less carbon emissions. Therefore, gas engines are generally considered clean energy sources.
Would you choose an electric vehicle or a gas vehicle?
