Today our journey of theOngoingHistory:fromShanghaiToMilano? is with Pavilion Poland! The concept of the Polish Pavilion for Expo2010 was based around traditional polish folk art paper cut-outs, reinterpreted in a contemporary fashion. The idea was generated when the team sought to create a ‘cultural ideogram’ that would signify the country of origin in an iconic way. A ramp was created by the folded exterior, which enabled visitors to climb onto the roof of the building, making the entire building a functional exhibition space.
This time in Expo2015, the Pavilion has a simple, rectangular form whose external look is outlined by wooden boxes. One of the attractions of the pavilion is its magical garden. The winning design relates to one of Poland’s top agricultural exports - apples. The architectural team creates a symbolic maze, with a magical garden as its focal point – a Polish orchard, full of apple trees.
