Today our journey of theOngoingHistory:fromShanghaiToMilano is with Pavilion United Kingdom! The UK pavilion at Expo2010, colloquially known as the Seed Cathedral, was a sculpture structure which referenced the race to save seeds from round the world in banks. It housed 250,000 plant seeds at the end of 60,000 acrylic rods, held in place by geometrically-cut holes with the rods inserted therein. The pavilion also won the BIE gold award for best pavilion design.

For Expo2015, the UK Pavilion is creating a stand-out pavilion inspired by the role of the bee in the global ecosystem and offering visitors a unique experiential journey. With the theme “Grown in Britain and Northern Ireland”, the pavilion aims to raise global awareness of and provide innovative solutions to one of the most pressing challenges of our time – how to feed and sustain an expected rise in the world’s population to nine billion by 2050.
