Astana EXPO 2017 officially started its call for applications for its Energy Best Practices Area (eBPa), one of the flagship areas of the forthcoming Expo, which will showcase tangible solutions to the world's biggest challenges.

In the 3,000 square meter area of eBPa, Astana Expo 2017 will be showing the best technologies, developments and strategies in different areas of sustainable energy: energy production, storage, and use, combatting climate change, and providing access to energy in developing countries.

Anyone who has a successful case study to share can apply before May 15, 2016. The participation is open to governments of all nations, corporations and businesses, international organizations, public organizations or associations, universities and educational organizations, public-private partnerships, individuals and inventors.

The finalists of eBPa will be chosen on a competitive basis by the International Selection Committee (ISC) consisting of renown scientists, energy experts and policymakers among whom are Yuriko Koike, Member of the House of Representatives, former Minister of the Environment of Japan, Maria van der Hoeven, Senior Associate Fellow of Clingendael International Energy Programme, former Executive Director of International Energy Agency, Rajendra K. Pachauri, Director General of the Energy and Resources Institute, Ex-Chairman of IPCC, and George F. Smoot III, Professor at University of California Berkeley, Nobel Laureate in Physics (2006). The ISC is chaired by Vicente G. Loscertales, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
