The World Energy Summit (WFES), held on 19-22 January in Abu Dhabi (UAE), is the Middle East's largest gathering on large spectrum of new energy solutions, from hydrocarbons to renewables. In fact, WFES 2015 attracted more than 30,000 delegates from 170 countries, representing business, administrations, engineering and scientific research. Moreover, WFES was the anchoring event of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week that included the Third International Water Summit, the second edition of EcoWASTE and coincided with the Fifth General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The organizers of the Expo Astana 2017 and Expo Dubai 2020 rightly held the opportunity to promote their projects during the WFES 2015.
The theme of Expo 2017, "Future Energy", is closely linked to the topics addressed at WFES, thence representatives of JSC "NC Astana EXPO-2017" and the Ministry of Environment an Water Resources of Kazakhstan took part in panel discussions during the event and an informational stand of Expo Astana 2017 was present in the exhibition area of the Summit. WFES and all connected events became for Kazakhstan an important occasion to attract potential Expo partners and participants. In particular, an MOU between Kazenergy Company and IRENA was signed to provide a framework for cooperation in preparing Expo 2017.
Expo Dubai 2020 "was playing at home" and its team performed an important networking activity during the WFES. The Sustainability is one of the Expo 2020 sub-themes ("Connecting Minds, Creating the Future"), so WFES participants could be also involved in the preparation of the Dubai's World Expo. It is not by chance that HE Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State of UAE and Director General of Bureau Dubai EXPO 2020 was one of the leading speakers of WFES 2015.
