The conceptual design of the Austrian pavilion underscores this principle, giving each visitor the opportunity for playful interaction. Individual performance is important, but only in cooperation with others can enough energy be generated to make a real difference.
The Austrian Pavilion showcases the country in a spacespanning roughly 870 square metreswithin the international section of the EXPO grounds.
Visitors enter the pavilion through the “energy lock”, where they are greeted by the pavilion staff. The emotional highlight of the pavilion is the “Austrian Power Machine”.
A two-storey scaffolding structure in the centre represents the spatial-visual translation of an energy network. Visitors pedal, press, swing, pull, kick, and operate a plethora of brightly lit, audible, poetic, funny, and instructive devices. The more the participants combine their efforts, the stronger Austria 'vibrates'.
Thus offer visitors the chance to explore the subject of energy in a playful, hands-on way.
With brain, heart, and muscle power, the exhibition is powered by participatory human energy. The result is an image of Austria that is vivacious, imaginative, and active.
The exhibition consciously stands out from the otherwise screen-dominated EXPO, and presents Austria as a country of innovation and creativity. Fun and unexpected exhibition elements serve to forge a link between people and the topic of Future Energy.
