The Member States of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) held the 162ndGeneral Assembly in Paris on 14 to 15 November. After fierce competition, the General Assembly voted for Argentina’s project to organize Specialised Expo 2023 in Buenos Aires.
Three countries were in the running to host the next Specialised Expo and detailed as follows:

Poland’s bid is to organisea Specialised Expo in the city of ?ód? between 15 June and 15 September 2022 under the theme “City Re:Invented.”

The United States’ bid is to organise a Specialised Expo in Bloomington, Minnesota, between 13 May and 13 August 2023 under the theme “Healthy People, Healthy Planet: Wellness and Well Being for All.”

Argentina’s bid is for a Specialised Expo in Buenos Aires between 15 January and 15 April 2023 under the theme “Science, Innovation, Art and Creativity for Human Development. Creative Industries in Digital Convergence.”
Two rounds of voting were made in the afternoon of November 15, and the United States was dropped in the first round. Argentina defeated Poland by 62:56 in the second round, and became the host country of Expo 2023.
The General Assembly also recognized EXPO 2022 FLORIADE ALMERE (Source: BIE)
The 162nd General Assembly also formally recognized Floriade Expo 2022 Amsterdam-Almere as an International Horticultural Exhibition, deliberated and approved the annual work reports of the four committees of the BIE, and listened to the preparation progress of EXPO 2020 Dubai, International Horticultural Exposition 2019 Beijing and Milan Triennial Exhibition 2019 as well as the closing conclusion of Expo 2017 Astana.
Four cities are in the running to host Expo 2025, namely, Osaka of Japan, Yekaterinburg of Russia, Baku of Azerbaijan, and Paris of France, and they all made presentations about the theme of Expo 2025 during the General Assembly. The BIE’s 164th General Assembly will be held in November 2018, and the city to host Expo 2025 will be elected through voting.

During the General Assembly, WEM’s delegation communicated with Manal AlBayat, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Integration at Expo 2020 Dubai, representatives of the four countries bidding for hosting Expo 2025, Tim Briercliffe, Secretary General of the International Association of Horticultural Producers, and Andrea Cancellato, Director of Milan Triennial Exhibition.
