May 18 is the International Museum Day, and celebrations are held all over the world. Shanghai is the main venue for celebrating the International Museum Day in China. World Expo Museum organizes a master forum on the topic of “Museums and Good Life” and a special ceremony to mark the launch of the Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Alliance as well as the first Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Expo.
The theme chosen for the International Museum Day 2018 is: Hyperconnected museums: New approaches, new publics. The idea of hyper-connectivity was first introduced in 2001 to refer to communication through multiple channels in the contemporary society, including face-to-face communication, e-mail, instant messaging, telephone and the Internet. The global network of contacts has become increasingly complex, pluralistic and integrated.

World Expo Museum’s poster for the International Museum Day 2018
Echoing the International Council of Museums (ICOM) poster, World Expo Museum has designed its own poster. In terms of color, fonts, patterns and typesetting, both posters give people the impression of a complete system, with harmony of beauty.
In the hyper-connected world, museums have an active role to play and should keep in touch with the society. Based on the ICOM poster, World Expo Museum’s poster has brighter colors, so it appeals to young people better. Both posters are based on the QR code which is a relatively new technology but the public can appreciate very well. That creates a link between museums and the public. The poster of World Expo Museum has the QR codes of 27 coins from the exhibition “Expo Heritage: Exhibits Collections from World Expos”(the Expo Heritage exhibition).

It is worth mentioning that World Expo Museum has also issued a new poster for the Expo Heritage exhibition. The poster consists of English letters and 27 QR codes. Scanning any one of the QR codes or turning on the Bluetooth connection in the exhibition hall and then use the WeChat shake function, visitors can get audio, graphic and text introduction to one of the coins.
In addition to the QR codes, the poster highlights two letters: W and E. The designer renders E into the architectural shape of World Expo Museum, and then embed the QR codes in the framework to highlight the fashion and modernity of the Museum. The two letters W & E are initialism of World Expo and between them there is a path and a ladder on which a lot of people are walking. That means the gathering of people all over the globe here. The blue QR codes look like small trees around the museum, symbolizing that World Expo Museum is our home, a common place for gathering, communication and cooperation.
