The Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Alliance Established, Including 29 Members

  29 members including Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Museum, Zhejiang Museum and Anhui Museumcame together to launch the Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Alliance

  The launching ceremony of the Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Alliance was held at World Expo Museum in Shanghai on May 19, 2018. The ceremony was also a symposium entitled "Museums: A Community", the opening event of the Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Exposition.

  The Yangtze River Delta Museum Education Alliance is a cooperative projectchampioned by Shanghai Cultural Broadcasting and Television Administration, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Anhui Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage and Shanghai Office of Students Outreach. The Alliance has 29 members including Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Museum, Zhejiang Museum and Anhui Museum who came together to witness its official launch.

  Meanwhile, Chen Yun Memorial, Fengxian Museum, East China Normal University Museum, Qian Xuesen Library, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, Shanghai Lu Xun Memorial, World Expo Museum and Shanghai History Museum formally joined Shanghai League. Mr. Yang Zhigang, curator of Shanghai Museum, and Mr. Zhou Zengwei, director of Shanghai Teachers Training Center, launched the Education Ethics Training and Practice Center for Primary and Secondary Teachers.

  Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Shanghai and Anhui Province have close relationships geographically and also in terms of economic and cultural development. This region which we call the Yangtze River Delta is emerging as a world-class megalopolis. As Mr. Chu Xiaobo, deputy director of Shanghai Cultural Broadcasting and Television Administration and Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Cultural Heritage, said in his speech, the Yangtze River Delta shares a strong cultural heritage, so the Museum Education Alliance will promote the sharing of museum resources, technologies, talent and other factors throughout the Yangtze River Delta and play a big role in producing regional cultural synergy and facilitating innovation on that basis. The Alliance will promote regional cooperation inmuseum innovation andpool together the museums’ unique strengths, so it will lift the level of museum development and communication in this region, helping realize the educational function of museums.

  The Alliance will also work with the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in many ways, sharing resources and enhancing top-level design to explore new content, forms and modelsof cooperation between museums and schools, including joint teacher training and text material compilation as well as educational activities. This will help connectup museum education and school education in this region.

  Curators of museums in the Yangtze River Delta as well as education professionals and representatives from the business community also shared their views at the symposium on "Museums: A Community".

  

  Mr. Yang Zhigang, Curator of Shanghai Museum

  In his keynote speech, Mr. Yang Zhigang, Curator of Shanghai Museum, reviewed the collaborations between Shanghai Museum and other museums in the Yangtze River Delta, including the “Art Tour Jiangnan” project launched in December 2017 by Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Museum and Suzhou Museum which gave the Jiangnan culture new meanings in the new era. He said that museumswould be the best channel to communicate the local culture, including the Red culture, Shanghai culture and Jiangnan culture. Musuems should be cultural landmarks in any city.

  Mr. Wang Xiaoming, Curator of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, called for "building a museum-linked educational ecosystem" in the Yangtze River Delta.He argued thatmuseums have rich thematic resources and could offer an open and free learning environment, so they can work better as a link in this ecosystem than any other public education institution.

  

  Ms. Liu Wentao, Deputy Curator of Nanjing Museum

  Ms. Liu Wentao, Deputy Curator of Nanjing Museum, introduced the importance offocused communication inmuseum operation. She believed that museums should recognize differences and respect individual needs, aim to serve visitors of different ages, different educational backgrounds and different preferences.

  

  Mr. Zheng Longting, Deputy Curator of Anhui Museum

  Mr. Zheng Longting, Deputy Curator of Anhui Museum, introduced cases of public education that Anhui Museum has conducted in recent years. Anhui Museum is committed to building a community of traditional culture through pooling cultural resources and organizing various cultural and educational activities. These efforts would turn museums into culture exchange platforms for cultural scholars, artists and the local community where they couldshare knowledge and jointly advance the cause of public education.

  Shanghai FTZ International Cultural Investment Development Co., Ltd. provided technical support for the museum in holding the symposium. The company’s representative Mr. Hu Huanzhong said Shanghai Free Trade Zone is committed to building a shared and open platform for cultural and creative entitiesto develop and release cultural and creative products. The platform would provide necessary professional services likeIP resourcesselection, evaluation and standardization.

  Two scholars, Prof. Zhuang Yu of East China Normal University Museology Center and Mr. Liu Yinghua of Qibao High School, gave academic speeches: The Muse Park in the City: Discipline Imagination through Museum Education and Search for Shanghai's History in the War Against Japanese Aggression.

  The symposium has created a consensus about the future of cooperation among museums and cooperation between libraries and schools. The participants have agreed to link up museums in the Yangtze River Delta to promote the Jiangnan culture, boost professional and efficient communication and cooperation and help advance the Yangtze River delta integration.

  From May 21 to 22, World Expo Museum will also hold another workshop ofthe Museum Education Alliance “Museum Education for the Future”. World Expo Museum is committed to building aleading professional cultural training platform focusing especially on museum education.
