WE Theatre Science Session - Meteorology　　

　　A meteorology lecture was held at the WE Theater of WEM

　　In the past two days, Typhoon Mangkhut has caused a lot of panic. The live video of the storm is shocking.

　　Nature is so mysterious: the weather may be very gentle, but may also get very violent sometimes. All we have to do is to understand it and know how to protect ourselves even in the worst condition.

　　On September 15 and 16, as one of the 2018 National Science Day activities, a meteorology lecture was held at the WE Theater of WEM. The lecture attracted 300 families. Following the meteorology program hosts, everyone experienced the meteorological science in "wind" and "rain".

　　The host from Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, Guan Chenrui, talked about “Bug, Newton and Meteorological Satellites”. She explained the development of meteorological optics from rainbow after the rain to meteorological satellites. Liu Xiaodong, the host from Dalian Meteorological Bureau, took the example of a weather program host struck by lightning to reveal the mystery of time.He also introduced the common measures for protection against lightning in a simple and funny way, making the children and adults laugh. Jiang Huimin, the host from Yunnan Meteorological Bureau,"led" the visitors to Dali, Yunnan to explore the “winds” there.

　　After the lecture, the visitors conducted interactive experiments on the spot with the knowledge they had learned. The kids completed their own scientific works step by step.

　　Meteorology is an important subject in the history of World Expos. The US Pavilion at Expo 2005 Aichi focused on Benjamin Franklin’s experiments to capture electricity and presented the contributions of American scientists to the development of science and technology.Expo 2010 Shanghai even had a special meteorology pavilion.This year, the World Expo Meteorological Observatory was open at WEM. We hope to share the meteorological knowledge with whoever loves the science of meteorology.
