The 8th Chinese Museum and Related Products and Technologies Exposition
As the premier showcasing event for Chinese museums and museum professionals, the 8th Chinese Museum and Related Products and Technology Expo (MPT Expo) closed on November 26. WEM, which opened in 2017, was a new participant. Although its stand had only an area of 36 square meters, it had attracted huge crowds for its unique design, the passport stamping activity and most of all its Future Digital Museum which offers visit guide, social networking and online shopping services.

Unique stand design:“We Love Museum”
The MPT Expo is organized by the Chinese Museums Association (CMA) under the auspice of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. The theme this year is "Museums - New Journey in the New Era". In a space of about 50,000 square meters, Chinese museums presented themselves in unique forms: some stands were classical and solemn while some others were modern and simple.
The 23 special committees of the CMA also held academic seminars to discuss the challenges and opportunities of museums in the new era and how to achieve further innovations and development in exhibit collection, academic research, display, education, communication and creation. 71 participating museums had independent stands while 234 museums from 12 provinces were presented in joint spaces. For the first time, the MPT Expo set up a special exhibition area for non-state-owned museums, allowing 76 non-state-owned museums from 24 provinces to participate in the MPT Expo.

The Expo was a great opportunity for WEM to exchange and connect with other museums.
Colleagues from other museums
WEM stand
As a very “young” museum, WEM drew a lot of attention for its superior location and stand design. The World Expo Heritage Collection, which was curated by WEM’s own staff, attracted a lot of colleagues from other museums.
Peer exchange
WEM had also explored innovative means to break the information barriers between museums and to upgrade services and improve visitor experience with state-of-the-art technologies.
Discussing the Future Digital Museum
WEM also brought its Future Digital Museum to the MPT Expo. It is a lightweight BT client without cumbersome APP installation or registration requirements. On the basis of 5-billion-pixel panoramic video, it offers virtual tours, social networking, e-commerce and other services. Users can shake their mobile phones to get what they want at an incredibly high speed. WEM’s Future Digital Museum is a new product designed to enhance the experience of museum visitors. This smart application of WEM had been driven by collaboration with other museums and the manufacturer.

In addition, WEM’s cultural products were also highly welcomed.
Cultural products
As Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage Liu Yuzhu said, museums are mandated to adopt innovative concepts and means to boost further growth as part of the macro economic and social development, and showcase new achievements of reform and opening up.
As the first museum on World Expos and the only official museum and documentation center of the BIE, WEM is mandated to continue and pass on the heritage and examine the themes of World Expos. In the future, WEM will become an important platform of Shanghai for international cultural exchange and external communication. Above all, it will actively promote post-World Expo cultural exchanges in various forms.
