"Read the World- Exhibition of Expo Historical Documentations " is the first special exhibition focusing on the precious historical documentations of the World Expo. During the ceremony, Chairman Hong Hao thanked theBureau International des Expositions (BIE), the organizers of multiple Expos, the exhibitors and cooperative units for their support. He said that in the history of the World Expo in the past 170 years, there were many shining points in human civilization in EXPO's records, and the Expo documents are the most faithful recorders of these shining points and common wealth of all mankind. After years of hard work, World Expo Museum is now a document research center with a relatively concentrated collection of World Expo documentations. It has precious World Expo documentations since 1831 with 14 kinds of languages. On this basis, a World Expo special library with an area of 1,600 square meters and a collection of 100,000 will be opened for trial operation in the World Expo Museum next year, and will gradually be built into a collection of resource promotion, information collection, and reference consulting Expo professional service information platform.
It is introduced that the Expo Library is expected to open more than 5,000 books (most of them are the subject of the Expo), and will also open 13TB Expo digital resources (Expo pictures, books, videos) for public viewing. After the library is opened, it will serve the public via appointment.

At the ceremony, on behalf of theBureau International des Expositions (BIE), Mr. Loscertales fully affirmed and highly praised the continuous professionalism, engagement and dedication of World Expo Museum in representing the rich diversity and legacy of Expos and their themes.
Mr. Loscertales said that ‘Read the World’ delved into the fascinating, complex and multifaceted aspects of planning and executing an Expo, this illustrated and reinforced the role of the World Expo Museum as a vibrant venue for research and learning. He wished visitors a very enjoyable visit, and a huge success for the Exhibition.

On November 23, 2010, Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Bureau of International Expositions formally signed the "Memorandum of Cooperation on the World Expo Museum" in Paris, France which defined the World Expo Museum as the only official museum and authorized documentation centre of BIE. World Expo Museum has been committed to mobilizing resources from multiple countries to find, solicit and study various kinds of World Expo documentations since its establishment. In the process, it has received full recognition and strong support of the World Expo family, and has accumulated a number of formal Expo documentations. This documentations exhibition is a report on the phase results of the collection.
"Read the World- Exhibition of Expo Historical Documentations " will be held from December 11, 2019 to February 9, 2020 in the temporary exhibition hall 1, with an exhibition area of 1,027 square meters. The exhibition consists of four units: Expos Described by Pens, Expos in Painting and Crafts, Art Across the Globe, and Composing the Future. Exhibited more than 300 exhibits, spanning more than a hundred years since the World Expo was born, and the language covers Chinese, English, French, Italian, and even Czech, Hungary and other languages, categories include official reports, certificates of merit, news pictorials, travel journals, design drawings, novels, scores, recipes, etc. It showcased the exchanges and mutual learning of eight industries such as transportation, architecture, art at the World Expo, and demonstrated the common aspirations of people from all over the world to share a beautiful and pursuit of progress and work together to create a great journey for a bright future.
In addition to the support of the International Exhibition Bureau, the organizers of the Expo, the exhibitors and all sectors of society, this exhibition also benefited from the "Museum-School Cooperation" project of the Expo Museum. The " Composing the Future " unit of the exhibition received responses from 37 primary and secondary schools in Shanghai; one of the charity supporting activities of the exhibition-"Love Concert" will also be performed by the string orchestra from "Museum-School Cooperation" Shanghai United International School

In order to highlight the content depth and theme characteristics of the exhibits, present the transformability and interactive functions of the documentations as a carrier. During the exhibition, the World Expo Museum will also cooperate with institutions and organizations such as Shanghai Library, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huangpu District Education Bureau, Meiai Charity, Shanghai United International School, and Reading Angel Volunteer Team to hold academic lectures, recitations and concerts together.
