World Expo Museum director Liu Xiuhua issued certificates to students
In the afternoon of January 12th, the "Read the World- Exhibition of Expo Historical Documentations ""Reply after 80 years" and " Contribution accepted and exhibited certificate " awarding ceremony were held at "Writing the Future" Exhibition zone. Huangpu District Education Bureau Teacher Li Bin, World Expo Museum director Liu Xiuhua issued certificates to 26 youth from 15 schools in Shanghai.
"Read the World- Exhibition of Expo Historical Documentations " is the first special exhibition focusing on the precious historical documentations of the World Expo. In the fourth unit of the exhibition the "Writing the Future" section, the " Reply after 80 years " exhibition area was set up, which displayed letters written by three famous people including Einstein for Expo 1939 New York. Thinking about the future destiny of mankind is not only the core of these letters, but also the theme of the Expo.
In order to arouse the public, especially the youth to think about the past and the future, to pay attention to the future World Expo and China, and to promote exchanges through exhibitions, World Expo Museum started to collect replies through the official website, WeChat and other channels from October to mid-November 2019.
With the support of the Huangpu District Education Bureau, Kidspeak and other schools and institutions, World Expo Museum received a total of 192 letters from 37 schools. According to statistics, all of these letters came from the generation born after 2000, the youngest of whom is in first grade of primary school, the oldest is 20 years old, from Wuhan University.

Of the 192 replies, 68 were letters to Albert Einstein, 71 were letters for oneself 10 years later, 6 letters to Paul Thomas Mann, 21 letters to the future China World Expo, 6 letters to Robert Andrews Milligan, 20 letters to teenagers in Dubai.
The curator selected 52 letters from 27 schools by following four dimensions: imaginative content, expressing true disposition, creative form and insightful viewpoint. The original manuscripts were displayed in the exhibition in two batches. The first batch of letters was on display from December 11, 2019 to January 12, 2020, and the second batch was on display since January 14, 2020.
The electronic version of The originals and manuscripts which are not on display can be browsed by accessing the "Expo Library Digital Resource Library (Flash Edition)" through two computers in the "Flash Library" area in the exhibition hall. You can find your manuscript by searching school and name.

Huangpu District Education Bureau Teacher Li Bin said that the World Expo Museum is a social practice base for primary and secondary schools in Huangpu District. The letter collection activity is a dialogue between students and scientists across time and space with a very creative form. He congratulate students on their letters being chosen as parts of the exhibits. He said the youth are the future of this world, letters today are document of tomorrow, which carry information we send to human beings in the future.
Director of the World Expo Museum Liu Xiuhua commented these letters. She said that the letters reflected the mental outlook of primary and middle school students in Shanghai, reflected students' commitment to the future, the youth's willingness to surpass their predecessors. They care about the world and face the future positively..
World Expo Museum is a museum for the whole world, for future and for young people. This event also reflects the characteristics of the World Expo Museum as the only official museum and authorized documentation centre of BIE. Following this event, May 1st this year marks the 10th anniversary of the successful inauguration of the Expo 2010 Shanghai and the 3rd anniversary of the opening of World Expo Museum. At the appointed time, World Expo Museum will launch a series of activities that interact with the public. Among whom, young people are still Interactive groups. In addition, World Expo Museum will set up an independent pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai, and will also conduct youth exchange and interactive activities. Director Liu Xiuhua hoped that students who wrote to children in Dubai and their schools would continue to maintain the museum-school interaction and continue participation.

In this activity, most of the students responded by handwriting, and a small number of students express themselves with illustrations. In addition, nearly 20 replies were in English which demonstrated the excellent foreign language ability of contemporary Shanghai students. The content expressed their own opinions and had mixed feelings about the future of mankind: they were proud of today's technological advancement and cultural diversity, but also worry about future environment and wars around the globe; they had rich and colorful imaginations about their future university life and career,some had high ambitions, some were happy with their own "little luck"; some were curious about the Expo 2020 Dubai and were enthusiastic and friendly to foreign youths; others hoped that the motherland could use more advanced technology to lead the common destiny of mankind, and hoped countries around the world maintain deep friendship.
