On the afternoon of April 23rd, Beijing time, the meeting of Information and Communication Committee of Bureau International des Expositions (hereinafter referred to as "BIE") for the first half year of 2021 was held online. At the invitation of BIE, the curator, Liu Xiuhua represents the World Expo Museum (hereinafter referred to as "WEM") to attend the meeting and make a report of the working achievements in 2020 and the key working plans for 2021 to the Committee.
The secretary-general of BIE, Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, the chairman of Information and Communication Committee, Murager Sauranbayev (Kazakhstan), representatives of member states of the commission and the relevant departments of secretariat of BIE attend the meeting and listen to the report of the World Expo Museum.
As the only official museum, WEM has been incorporated into the routine work system of BIE, and it is under the jurisdiction of the Information and Communication Committee, which have to report to the committee timely. Influenced by the epidemic of COVID-19, this conference was held online. And WEM also had to speak directly for the first time.
The curator, Liu Xiuhua introduced that in the past more than one year, facing the great challenges brought by COVID-19 epidemic to the museum's various businesses, WEM has effectively ensured the safe open and operation of the pavilion through adopting strict prevention and control measures, successfully held five temporary exhibitions of various kinds and more than 200 social education activities. Meanwhile, it has launched online exhibitions and events, which has made solid progress in academic research and preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai.
At the meeting, WEM also reported on its key work plan for 2021 in terms of participating in Expo 2020 Dubai, the opening of the official documentation center of BIE and the Expo Library, and temporary exhibitions, etc.
Brief Introduction of information and Communication Committee of Bureau International des Expositions
Bureau International des Expositions has four committees, as the Executive Committee, the Rules Committee, the Administration and Budget Committee, and the Information and Communication Committee, which are in charge of dealing with all kinds of affairs related to the daily activities of BIE, and reporting to the General Assembly of BIE. Information and Communication Committee is mainly responsible for setting down communication and promotion strategies for BIE, and providing suggestions on communication and promotion to the sponsor of WEM. Each committee holds meeting twice a year. And all their proposals are submitted to the General Assembly of BIE for approval.
Information and Communication Committee is made up of nine member countries. On November 27th, 2019, BIE held the 166th General Meeting and and elected the current members of the Commission, including Cameroon, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Mali, Palau, Tunisia and Uzbekistan. The current chairman of the committee is Murager Sauranbayev (Kazakhstan).
