“Damascus” translates to “a well-watered land”—one from which a ripple effect of aspirations will nurture the spirit of kinship, showing us that we all have more in common than we think.

Its main exhibition includes a vast collection of wooden tablets, each individually decorated by a Syrian family, whether living in Syria or part of the diaspora.
What makes Syria Pavilion’s architectural design unique is that it expands the walls of our hearts: over 3,000 Syrians have come together to “build” the pavilion by pouring their love, hope, and soul into each wooden piece as they ponder the question,“What is Syria to you?”. This unique convergence of minds is Syria’s one-of-a-kind approach to creating the future.
Watch thousands of paintings from all over the world in the Syrian Pavilion
Among the thousands of pieces are two individually created representations by Ambassador Dr. Ghassan Abbas, and Dr. Claudia J. Barenco Abbas. The Ambassador and Dr. Abbas both hold Syria dear to their hearts, as can be seen in their designs.
Ambassador Abbas's work-- Jasmine of Damascus
Ambassador Abbas presents Syria as the rising sun, lifted up by blossoming jasmine, celebrating the sobriquet of Damascus,“City of Jasmine”.
Dr. Abbas evokes's work--Rose of Syria
Dr. Abbas evokes an ancient and spiritual significance, by constructing the vibrant Damascus rose with sacred geometry, set against the backdrop of a Syria undergoing reconstruction.
Both pieces are gardens of hope where the seeds of a brighter future for Syria and all Syrians are planted.
